Phyllostachys nigra, carved lid
Lying-incense holder, bamboo
$124
A shallow box for incense laid flat rather than stood upright, with a pierced lid so the smoke comes out along the whole length of the stick. Laid flat, a stick burns at the same rate but its heat spreads sideways into the bamboo instead of concentrating at one point, so the bed scorches slowly and evenly.

Ships from Hangzhou in 2–5 business days. Delivery is typically 7–15 business days to the US and 8–16 to the EU, UK, Australia and New Zealand, customs permitting. Import duties and taxes are charged by your country's customs, not by us, and are payable on delivery. The United States ended its $800 duty-free exemption on 29 August 2025, so US orders now attract duty at every value. The EU introduces a flat €3 duty per item on goods below €150 from 1 July 2026. Where it comes from
Purple bamboo is the same species as common black bamboo: the culms start green and darken to near-black over a few seasons, and the darkness is in the wood, not a stain. Bamboo is a grass, so the culm is hollow between solid nodes — the node is the structural joint, which is why bamboo objects are built around the nodes rather than cut through them.
