Thrown by hand in a single morning, then fired twice at 1280°C. The outside is left raw so ash sits on it the way it sits on stone. No two are the same height; the variance is under a centimetre.

Where it comes from
The Zhou family has run this kiln since 1987. We visit twice a year, not for photographs — we go because a supplier who cannot name the clay they dig is a supplier you will eventually have to explain to a customs officer.
