108 beads · Ziziphus jujuba

Jujube bead strand, lightning-struck

$168

108 beads of jujube wood, turned and finished with oil and wax. Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba) is a slow-growing fruit tree, hard and dense, with a grain that darkens to a red-brown as it oxidises. The stock is bought as 雷击木 — wood from trees struck by lightning — on the supplier's designation rather than on any test, because no such test exists.

Ships from Hangzhou in 2–5 business days. Delivery is typically 7–15 business days to the US and 8–16 to the EU, UK, Australia and New Zealand, customs permitting. Import duties and taxes are charged by your country's customs, not by us, and are payable on delivery. The United States ended its $800 duty-free exemption on 29 August 2025, so US orders now attract duty at every value. The EU introduces a flat €3 duty per item on goods below €150 from 1 July 2026. Where it comes from

Lightning-struck wood is not a species. It is a history, and histories are the hardest thing in this trade to prove. When lightning hits a standing tree the current boils the sap inside the trunk and splits it; the tree seals the wound with resin, and the wood around that seam hardens and darkens over the years that follow. There is no laboratory method that separates a struck tree from an unstruck one, and no authority issues certificates for it. Anyone who offers you a document saying otherwise printed that document themselves. So we tell you where our claim comes from and nothing more: the supplier identifies trees struck on land they work, and we buy the stock on that basis. That is the whole of the evidence, and you are entitled to know that it is the whole of it. What can be checked is the wood itself — the density, the tightness of the grain, the seam where the trunk closed back over. That is what we would ask you to judge it on.
